Hi to all my friends and family.
Today, Calyn had surgery to open the clogged sinuses and remove her adenoids. Everything went fine, she had a "pus pocket" in the sinuses under one cheek but that was cleaned out too. Her sinuses are inflamed and her adenoids were blocking at least half of her airway at the back of her nose.
She had her surgery at Texas Children's Hospital. Everyone was very nice and helpful. She played with two little girls who were there for surgery prior to them all going in to get prepped. They put her to sleep with 'bubble gum' flavored air then put her ivs in and all the other props they use in surgery. The anesthesiologist said she would be grumpy when she woke up BUT... not! She came to in recovery and was quiet and peaceful. It was funny watching her antics as she strived to shake off the effects of the anesthesia. She would sit straight up and open her eyes real wide then lay back down and close them. She finally was enticed to stay awake to drink some apple juice and eat a purple popsicle.
The doctor had said that she can go back to daycare when she can eat & drink normally and is not needing pain meds. Well, while we waited for the car to be brought up (free valet parking!) she asked the nurse pushing her wheelchair if she could eat now. On the way home we stopped at McDonald's drive thru and she got and ate chicken nuggets and french fries and more apple juice. After we got her home she was hungry again within an hour and ate grapes, granola bar, string cheese & fruit snack. We had to go out to take Karen's EMT shirts to the cleaners and also pick up a few groceries and Calyn ate in the car, this time 3 cookies and a "snack baggie" of Golden Graham cereal. At about 7:30 she then ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with cheetos. I would definitely say she has no problem eating ....... now, stopping eating might be a different story. LOL
Her nose bleeds occasionally so we keep kleenex on hand. She has slept in the car everytime we've been in it since this morning. But she has remained quiet and peaceful all day. Praise God!
Thank all of you for your prayers for Calyn, they have been heard. She will go back on the 25th for them to do some "clean up".
Now, new prayer requests:
1) My niece, Cassie, who is attending her freshman year at college, has been experiencing swelling in her hands and they ran tests and say she tests positive for Lupus. The doctor says it "could" be a false positive and they are running further tests. Keep her in your prayers.
2) Karen has a doctor appointment on the 24th where they will again do a pap test to see how her HPV is doing. She's been having these tests every 3 months and it's a very stressful time because they always show an abnormal pap and her fear is that they will have to do another surgery and how will that affect her ability to have and carry a child to full term. She would like to have one more child.
I love you all and count you among my blessings.
God Bless!
